Three weeks from today, I will be unpacking 50 pounds of my stuff in a New York City apartment! After the doozey of a semester I just finished, I cannot wait to get started on this summer!
Yesterday, I finally found out a bit more about exactly what I’m going to be doing. Which, I’m willing to guess, will give me a more…acceptable…answer when people say “Cool! What are you going to be doing?” The organization I’ll be working with (SendNYC) is very much on the ground floor. There will be two other girl interns, Danielle and Lindsey, with whom I’ll be working. They seem super sweet! Danielle is going to be helping with the more logistical side of things. Honestly, I’m not entirely sure what her job entails. But if I remember correctly, it is going to include some public relations work, which I think would be super fun! Lindsey has some talents of which I may or may not be jealous. She’s a graphic design major (I wish I were artistic!). So, she is going to be working with designing that aspect of things for SendNYC. Even though I can’t do that type of thing, I cannot wait to see what she comes up with! And then there’s me. I’m going to be working with Rachel on the City Uprising event (details on this will probably be all throughout the coming posts) and some of the strategy/creative things. This, my friends, is super exciting to me! This past semester I took a class titled Missions Methodology. But don’t let the name fool you: it was an amazing class that taught me so much. It was a class on how to design and implement missions strategies. So, it was a class teaching you how to plan missions and missions events. Which is exactly what it sounds like I’ll be doing for the summer. I know this isn’t coming across in the blog, but I am absolutely thrilled about this! It is going to be so great! So those are the official jobs for each of us. However, as anyone who’s done an internship knows, there will be numerous little jobs in the day-to-day life of a SendNYC intern. Maybe they’ll pick up the intern’s definition of a “field trip” from Houston’s First. However, I’d be plenty pleased if they didn’t! :)
For now, that’s a pretty good summary of what I know thus far. And yes, I realize that I didn’t say anything about housing. That’s because I’m not entirely sure where I am going to be living. But they said they’ve got their eye on a few places for us, so no worries.
For the summer, I’m going to be updating this blog, hopefully, once a week. Also, you can follow me on twitter if you have an account. My username or whatever it’s called is alysonrwalker. SendNYC’s website is www.sendnyc.com and the Gallery Church’s site (the head church for SendNYC) is www.gallerychurch.com. Check ‘em out!
Also, just a side note. Hopefully I’ll see some exciting things (maybe meet some famous people). So some posts may not be all that spiritual in nature. It may just be the story of how I got my NYC Library Card (which I’m really hoping to do because I’m a poor nerd like that) or how I crossed the street with Mario Lopez (an anecdote I just stole from a friend).
PRAYER REQUESTS
Financial support: I still have just a tad to go before I’m fully funded for the summer. God has always supplied in the past, so I’m not worried!
Unity for the interns: the other girls seem absolutely wonderful! But I’m praying, and ask you to join me, that God would bind us together with one purpose and spirit.
All the things happening this summer: please lift up the people not just who will be serving but more importantly the people whom will be served!
LOVE EACH OF YOU! :)
